urban design, concept design

TOWNSCAPE’s concepts for Arlington’s public realm began with the I-30 Three Bridges Project. TOWNSCAPE served as the design lead for project enhancements and community image for the interdisciplinary project team. In this capacity TOWNSCAPE collaborated with project engineers from the outset, facilitated important input from corridor stakeholders, and generated creative enhancement concepts that will set a distinctive character and sense of arrival for the I-30 corridor in keeping with the strong image of the surrounding entertainment district and sports venues. The concepts recommend design treatments for bridges, walls, piers, and planting design that set the overall appearance and impression of the corridor, and provide important facilities to encourage safe and comfortable pedestrian and bicycle mobility.

TOWNSCAPE subsequently provided concept design for a number of related public realm projects, including the downtown Center Street gateway and streetscape, and the Center Street pedestrianway. On reviewing the concepts, Arlington’s Chamber of Commerce director stated, “You’ve established a cohesive community character that didn’t exist before.”
